They may not be actors or musicians under the spotlight, but Rooney Mara’s parents are undoubtedly well-known figures, notably in the world of football. Her mom and father’s families founded the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, respectively – plus, Rooney’s father is also the Giants’ senior vice president of player personnel. Despite this achievement in the sports scene, Rooney focused her investments elsewhere.

Inspired by her older sister, the actress Kate Mara, and her love for the movies Gone with the Wind and Rebecca, Rooney pursued a career under the entertainment industry’s spotlight. Her earlier stints were mostly for minor roles. On the bright side, though, she eventually garnered widespread recognition for her part in The Social Network. Since then, Rooney has worked on other notable movies, including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Her, Mary Magdalene, Carol, and A Ghost Story.
